Meals on Wheels
Is a community based service, organized to help the frail,aged,younger disabled and their carers and others with special needs to live in the community where they are happiest-in their own homes.
Who Receives Meals on wheels?
Clients may be frail, aged ,younger disabled and their carers who find it difficult due to age, infirmity or medical condition to prepare their own meals. The service may be provided on a short or long term basis, subject assessed need. Contact: www.myagedcare.gov.au or Disability Services if under the age of 65.
We are here to provide:
One of the basic necessities of life - We are here to provide prepared and delivered personally to eligible clients; a meal consisting of, soup a main course of vegetables and white or red meat or fish,or a dinner salad, and a dessert(sweets or fruit salad), Vitamin C supplement(orange or apple juice);
Special diets such as diabetic, soft serve, vitamin enriched, food intolerant and ethnic sensitive;
Arrangements for weekend meals and/or additional requirements;
The benefits of a personal visit providing a caring link with a community concerned for the well-being of its citizens.
All Clients pay a small fee for the meals
Contact your local Meals on Wheels Service Coordnator, Sharran at 07 5449 7659, preferably before midday, Monday to Friday, to arrange an early start.
Doctors, Nurses, Community health workers, family members, or other appropriate assessors can provide referrals. Clients can be self-referred.
Hospital discharges may be referred prior to release to ensure planning for early inclusion in delivery
A Coordinator from Meals on Wheels will contact the client to discuss the Service and any special requirements
